All men strive to make their lives better. We see it in the actions of those like the “Tea Party” who say, government get off our backs and let us prosper. It is the same in the “Occupy Wall Street Movement” they wish more—and their idea of more is have the government give them more. Both have the same objective. Anybody with any intelligence and knows anything about simple economics and history knows that raising taxes on the producers, will only make things worse. Republicans insisted on the responsible solution of cutting taxes and spending. It really is simple and it has worked every time it has been tried.

Teachers are Actually Overcompensated and Should be Brought in Line with Private Sector

The WSJ ran an article reporting on a report done by Briggs and Richwine that shows teachers are actually overcompensated by 52% more than what they could earn in the private sector when taking into account their salaries, fringe benefits, and job security.

First, let's consider salary, the item teachers whine about the most.

Education is widely regarded by researchers and college students alike as one of the easiest fields of study, and one that features substantially higher average grades than most other college majors. On objective tests of cognitive ability such as the SAT, ACT, GRE (Graduate Record Examination) and Armed Forces Qualification Test, teachers score only around the 40th percentile of college graduates. If we compare teachers and non-teachers with similar AFQT scores, the teacher salary penalty disappears.

Next, let's talk about health insurance, their valuable pension and all the time off they get.

Data on employee benefits from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), for example, do not include retiree health coverage, which for teachers is worth about an additional 10% of their salaries. Because of differing accounting rules between the public and private sectors, BLS data also make teachers' defined-benefit pensions appear only slightly more generous than the typical 401(k) plan found in the private sector.

In reality, a teacher who retired after 30 years of service with an annual salary of $40,000 might receive guaranteed annual pension benefits of about $20,330. Under a typical private 401(k) plan, a guaranteed annual benefit might be only around $4,450 (assuming the money is invested in U.S. Treasurys and the employee buys an annuity).

BLS data on paid leave for teachers count vacation days only during the school year, omitting summer and long holiday breaks. A valid pay comparison should include this extra time off, in which teachers can enjoy longer vacations or earn additional income.

Properly counted, a typical public school teacher with a salary of $51,000 would receive another $51,480 in present or future fringe benefits. A worker in private business with the same salary would receive around $22,185 in fringe benefits.

Finally, is job security.

Finally, despite recent layoffs, teachers still have greater job security than workers in private businesses. While employment in education declined by 2.9% between September 2008 and July 2011, according to BLS data, overall private-sector employment declined by 4.4%. Moreover, from 2005 through 2010 the unemployment rate for public school teachers averaged 2.1%, versus 4.1% for private school teachers and 3.8% for occupations that some consider comparable, such as computer programmers and insurance underwriters.

Job security protects against the loss of compensation suffered by the unemployed, and it also protects a position in which total wages and benefits are on average above market levels. This job security is surely valuable.

These are things I have always known about the teaching profession and commented on in various Missoulian LTE and Liberal blogs. I have no sympathy for teachers complaining about their career choice and how underpaid and unappreciated they are.

Teachers are, in fact, overcompensated and should be willing to take a 52% cut in pay in benefits to bring them down to what people of similar education and ability are making in the private sector. Heck I would suggest even a 42% cut to show that we appreciate them 10% more than people in the private sector.

I've had a copy of Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand for about 25 years. I purchased it a few years after graduating from college thinking I would have the time to read that massive volume but quickly discovered that the real world of career, marriage and raising a family was the priority. I also have to admit I was very intimidated by the sheer size of the book and talked myself out of it every time I considered starting it.

A few weeks back, I was sorting through a a box of old books and pulled it out. I took it to my chair after pouring myself a glass of Johnny Walker Black Label and started to read. I've been reading it now almost every evening when I get home from work and I am now kicking myself for putting it off for so long.

The book is incredible. Ayn Rand is a fantastic writer and the content of the story is relevant even to this day even though the book was published in 1957. I keep saying to myself I need to get on THR 2.0 and blog about the book. Today is that day.

I am about 30% though the book and ran across this passage last night that I found so true. It is Dr. Ferris explaining to Henry Rearden, the self made man of Reardon Steel, the reason government has laws as he ( Ferris) is attempting to blackmail Rearden into giving up Reardon Metal to the State Science Institute.

Did you really think we want those laws observed? said Dr. Ferris. We want them to be broken. You'd better get it straight that it's not a bunch of boy scouts you're up against... We're after power and we mean it... There's no way to rule innocent men. The only power any government has is the power to crack down on criminals. Well, when there aren't enough criminals one makes them. One declares so many things to be a crime that it becomes impossible for men to live without breaking laws. Who wants a nation of law-abiding citizens? What's there in that for anyone? But just pass the kind of laws that can neither be observed nor enforced or objectively interpreted – and you create a nation of law-breakers – and then you cash in on guilt. Now that's the system, Mr. Reardon, that's the game, and once you understand it, you'll be much easier to deal with.

There are many other speeches throughout the book I underlined as they are so clear in explaining the difference between free markets and government controlled markets. Not only is Ayn an amazing writer, her ability to predict the future we are in now is astonishing.

Why I Decided to Not Launch a New Start Up

A couple of associates and I have been traveling and meeting with potential investors in the effort to explore launching a start up company. The three of us are currently happily employed but our entrepreneurial personalities saw an opportunity we felt we needed to explore. We all work for the same organization and have the blessing of our boss, who has offered to be an initial investor. Our boss is one of those "evil and greedy" rich guys who happens to employ 79 well compensated people.

I am posting this here because I wanted to share a couple of real life reasons why our economy is currently a disaster and unemployment is at record levels. It is important to know who is ultimately responsible.

Without going into too much detail and violating any Confidentiality Agreements I am under, I will give a quick explanation of what we were planning on doing and why we decided not to go forward, at least not until 2012, when Obama is out of office and the Republicans control both the House and Senate.

Our opportunity would be to launch a small company that would initially consist of 10-15 salaried and hourly employees. The business model is sound and the potential investors we visited on the East Coast are very enthusiastic and would normally be willing to invest. The management team (my associates and myself) has a history of strong performance and proven success which gives great comfort to our potential investors.

We were feeling very enthusiastic about the possibility of creating a start up company until we got deeper into the DD and discovered some serious regulatory issues that were recently established by our government - Democrat controlled congress and the Obama Administration. These significant new regulatory requirements along with the uncertainty of any long term stability related to corporate taxes and the confiscatory requirements of Obamacare make it very difficult to justify putting our investor's and our capital at risk at this time. The exercise of doing our DD confirmed to us that the current Federal (Strong), State (mildl) and Local (Missoula strong) political climate is openly hostile to business and the profit motive.

In addition and as an aside, we seriously considered headquartering in Missoula but discounted the that option because of the anti business/corporate sentiment prevalent in the local government and general population, the lack of appropriately skilled and educated work force (we need scientists and engineers), and the below average work ethic (long hours of work at a high performance). Our conclusions are based on our observations over the many years each of us have lived and worked in Missoula.

Had there been a more friendly environment for our business, we would have happily created a company and hired a dozen people with the goal of continued growth in the future. Being honest, my personal and selfish incentive was to generate a lot of wealth for myself but I also would be providing good paying jobs and opportunities for others in addition to ultimately provide an important commodity to the marketplace.

But my associates and I will wait. We know our idea and business model are sound and can be potentially very profitable. We will wait until the climate for business, profits, and success change to being a positive one. I am certain that will be in 2012 when Obama and the Democrats are swept out of office at all levels of government.

Well the Department of Energy is sponsoring a Solar Decathlon that started today in Washington where teams of college students are competing for $100,000 by showing how solar energy can save money and use less energy.

Unfortunately, the weather is cloudy and rainy which is wreaking havoc on the competition.

Oh, and here's the entry from the City College of New York Team. It only cost $450,000 (cost includes parts and materials only since the students did the labor) and has the potential to produce 8 kilowatts of energy - but not today 'cause of the cold and rainy day.

Liberalism on display. Support of a failed technology to combat the phony issue of human caused climate change. And spending $450,000 to win $100,000.

I'm happy Mother Nature has a sense of humor and decided to rain on their silly and wasteful competition.

Stunning Poll Results for Montana GOP

Montana Cowgirl posted a poll today showing that 83% of Montanans believe that state government is being run efficiently, and 55% believe Montana’s economy is on the right track. She then tries to tie those results solely to the Executive branch of the Government. While the Executive branch runs the day to day operations of the government, the everyday citizen does not know the nuts and bolts of how the state government is run.

The vast majority of the news in the past year was about the Tea Party contingent of the Legislature. This is what people read and heard every single day about our government and as a result, in my humble opinion, is how they equate the direction of the Montana economy and the efficiency of the government.

The results of this survey bode very well for the Montana GOP, particularly the Tea Party branch of the GOP.

Shockingly, the MSM (the AP), actually did a fact check on Obama's claim that the rich don't pay their "fair share" of taxes. While I have known this for decades (simple common sense), Liberals and the MSM seem to have always thought otherwise. Somehow the rich got rich off the backs of the poor and middle class and don't pay their "fair share" of taxes. Actually they knew but needed to fan the flames (lie) of class warfare to their constituents in order to gain power and get elected.

On the top right of this blog, is a breakdown of who pays taxes. It clearly shows who pays their fair share of taxes in the United States and who are the parasites.

I'm pleased that somebody in the MSM actually decided to practice journalism and did some research on who actually pays taxes. Here are the relevant paragraphs from the article...

This year, households making more than $1 million will pay an average of 29.1 percent of their income in federal taxes, including income taxes, payroll taxes and other taxes, according to the Tax Policy Center, a Washington think tank.

Households making between $50,000 and $75,000 will pay an average of 15 percent of their income in federal taxes.

Lower-income households will pay less. For example, households making between $40,000 and $50,000 will pay an average of 12.5 percent of their income in federal taxes. Households making between $20,000 and $30,000 will pay 5.7 percent.

It is refreshing to see another bald faced Liberal lie be exposed by the MSM. The rich pay more than their "fair share" of taxes. The middle class and the poor should be thanking them every single day for their contributions to the greatness of this country.

He can argue all he wants but the bottom line is there is still ZERO scientific proof that humans cause global warming. There is nothing but theory based on flawed and incomplete computer models. With 9/11 tomorrow, I encourage everybody to put their American Flag out. While I have mine out every day I know most Americans don't. I would hope that the sense of patriotism we all had as a country in the days after the 9/11 attack would be rekindled on the tenth anniversary.

I know many Liberals see the American flag as something to be despised but I see it as a symbol of freedom, liberty, unity, and strength. That is why I am one of only two on my block who keeps my flag out every day.

What Obama Really Wanted to Say in his "Jobs" Speech

Holman W. Jenkins, Jr. of the WSJ pretty much nailed it this morning in his piece "Obama's Jobs Speech: An Early Draft". It is a satirical piece but perfectly describes Obama's attitude and those who blindly follow him.

Here are a few quotes that demonstrate Obama's and his follower's arrogance and attitude about their wrongheaded beliefs on healthcare.

Elections have consequences. We mastered the use of slogans and imagery and won the presidency. Now the power is ours to choose our agenda, and we chose not to be distracted by matters that arise—say, the country's economic crisis. We chose instead to pursue the things that we know should be pursued.

These things are called shibboleths—badges of identity that signify us as "progressives" and entitle us to a sense of superiority. One is nationalization of health care, an emblem of our "caring."

Then he goes into their wrongheaded beliefs about green energy.

One on which we've made less progress is the displacement of fossil fuels in favor of "green energy," at much higher cost. Accompanying this shibboleth are related shibboleths—about "energy independence," about "global warming"—that, like all shibboleths, are impervious to examination.

Then unions and business.

Another is union power—labor is good, management is bad. I could go on. These shibboleths are so important that, as you will have seen by now, we will not allow them to be impeded or delayed by matters that merely arise, such as the public's crying need for jobs. So we have blocked drilling for fossil fuels in as many places as possible, protecting Americans from the jobs that would be created.

So we have sacrificed jobs in order to punish Boeing for building a plant in South Carolina that would employ nonunion workers.

Consider my background. I don't know much about business and, frankly, don't care to. You see, I have a self-reinforcing image of Barack Obama. I am high-minded. Business people are greedy and, somehow, lesser. I stay focused on that.

Some might say, "Had I known this I never would have voted for you." A) You weren't listening carefully; and B) that was my intention, my art. To conceal—for instance, by dropping one's Gs—is what it means to be an effective left-wing ideologue in America these days.

I am not anti-business. I get a supreme sense of satisfaction when business leaders approach me and, in a deferential manner, ask for subsidies and regulatory favors that will determine whether their companies succeed or fail. Like solar subsidies. This is the kind of job creation I'm interested in.

My administration has taken flak because of our "investment" of tax dollars in a solar company that last week filed for bankruptcy. Don't be misled. If such companies were profitable and could survive without subsidies, they would not be fit objects of government charity, nor would their leaders approach me with a deferential mien.

Their dependency is what makes them loyal constituents, generous with a campaign donation, willing to go on CNBC and praise our policies. You can always count on me for job creation when it means taking money from independent businesses, those that are answering the call of the marketplace, and giving it to dependent businesses, those that are answering the call of government.

Although Obama never actually said any of this, I think we can all agree that this is what he actually really thinks.

The Day After Obama's "Jobs" Speech

Wall Street is responding poorly, as I expected, to Obama's call for increased taxes on millionaires and billionaires and temporary and limited "tax cuts". His "jobs" plan basically called to increase jobs for construction workers and teachers. Sorry to tell him, but most people are not construction workers or teachers. But we all know why he focuses on those professions. Those are the big union worker jobs.

Bottom line, Obama and his academic advisers have never held a real job nor have they created a real job in the real world of free markets. They are clueless about what to do and keep demonstrating that cluelessness every time Obama makes one of his jobs speeches.

The solution is simple. Cut taxes permanently, repeal Obamacare, cut regulations in half.

My company is a great example. We could have hired 75 people two years ago but because of permitting and regulatory red tape, we are still months away from being able to expand and hire these people. We are uncertain about what the future holds based on Obamacare, potential new regulatory requirements and the economic instability and have frozen hiring by not replacing the people who have left our company. So not only have we not been able to expand and hire 75 new people, we have not replaced the 10 people who have left (retirement, moved, passed away). That's 85 jobs (management, administrative, engineers, scientists, construction) with excellent pay and benefits that could be realized but are not because of Obama's policies and lack of understanding how the free market and real world operate.

Back when Obama was inaugurated, Rush made the statement that he hoped Obama would fail. Being an intelligent Rush fan, I fully understood what he meant by that statement. We knew back in January of 2009, that Obama's policy ideas and goals would be destructive to the US economy if implemented. Because we knew this, we hoped he would fail. Only a fool thought that hoping for Obama's failure was hoping for America's failure.

Unfortunately, Obama has not failed. Rather, he has been wildly successful. His policies were passed and implemented and we are now living with the results.

I think Obama has been claiming this for quite a while and he said it again, recently, on September 5.

“We said working folks deserved a break, so within one month of me taking office, we signed into law the biggest middle-class tax cut in history, putting more money into your pockets.”

According to The Washington Post Fact Checker, Obama is telling quite a lie. When most people think of a "biggest tax cut in history", they think total dollars, right? But when Obama claims it, he means a tax cut to the broadest section of the population.

“The point the president was making that is there is not a tax cut that has been enjoyed by such a broad section of the population,” an administration official said, pointing to a report that said that 95 percent of working families received some kind of tax cut under the Making Work Pay provision in his stimulus bill.

In other words, this isn’t about the size of the tax cut, but about the fact that every working family, except those making more than $190,000, received as much as $800 in tax cuts.

So he and his followers are claiming the "biggest tax cut in history" was issued by Obama when he first took office and look how it has failed to help the economy. Well I must have been in that 5% that didn't get a "tax cut" even though I am under the ~~millionaire and billionaire~~ $190,000 threshold. Maybe I did get a "tax cut" and ended up taking my family out to pizza with it. I certainly don't remember any difference when I filed my taxes in '09 and '10.

Despite what the ignorant Left thinks, a few hundred dollars in everybody's pocket is nice but it won't turn the economy around especially when Obama is expanding government spending at a record pace.

Another Failed Solar Company

Another "green energy" company has failed. Solyndra, a solar panel manufacturer, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy eve after heavy government subsidies and load guarantees. It was only 15 days ago when I posted about another heavily subsidized solar company, Evergreen Solar, declaring bankruptcy.

I've said it hundreds of times. There is no scientific or economical way that solar and wind will ever replace fossil fuel for electricity generation. It is impossible no matter how much money the government throws at it - as evidenced by these two recent failures. The free market is the best way to determine.

As the WSJ Review and Outlook section stated:

Solyndra's story is more evidence that trendy, politically directed investments don't make for efficient allocation of capital. Beyond the immediate losses, they mean the money wasn't available for market-directed investment with a better chande to succeed. This is how you get a 1% recovery.

Weak Obama Caves in "Jobs" Speech Schedule

I honestly didn't think it would happen. I'm so used to spineless Republicans caving on these types of situations that I fully expected it to happen again. So when I woke up this morning and fired up my iPad, the first thing I saw was the news Obama ~~agreed to move his "Jobs" speech~~ caved.

Obama's childish and classless action in trying to upstage the GOP debate the same night was seen for what it was and forced him to "reschedule".

The latest sparring began early Wednesday, when Obama’s staff surprised leaders of both parties by informing them the president wanted to reserve a prime-time slot, 8 p.m. ET next Wednesday, to address the House and Senate on the nation’s employment crisis and how he plans to reconcile the need for job creation with the imperative of deficit reduction.

That the White House sprang the speech on short notice to everyone isn’t in dispute. The president’s letter was leaked to the press shortly after House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) was told of the request.

Republicans were incensed. The address would conflict with Rick Perry’s debut in the POLITICO/NBC Republican presidential debate — which administration officials insisted was pure coincidence.

I am so proud of the GOP and Leader Boehner for having the balls and further exposing Obama for the petulant and weak leader he is.

Interesting development with the scheduling of Obama's "Jobs" speech. Obama is playing games by scheduling his speech on the same night - Wednesday - that the GOP was holding a nationally televised debate between the eight candidates running to save our country from destruction. Obama wants to give the speech to Congress which means he needs the House chambers to do it. Boehner, showing some backbone, responded by telling Obama that Thursday would be better since the House 's schedule is not dictated by the President. The House goes into session ant 6:30 on Wednesday and there is not enough time to prepare for Obama's request for the 8:00 speech.

Obviously, Obama is trying to upstage the GOP debate and I'm pleased that Boehner sees through it and is fighting for the debate. We all know Obama's "Jobs" speech will be no different than any of the seven other jobs speeches he has given since he was president. He will call for increased government spending and increased taxes on the millionaires and billionaires. We also all know that this plan won't work any better than any of his other failed policies and plans. So it really is no big deal that he moves his speech to Thursday. The man is an incompetent joke. I hope Boehner sticks to it and refuses him the Wednesday night request.

I'll be watching the Packers/Saints game on Thursday because I already know what Obama is going to say.

Montana Cowgirl Supports Sexism Against Women

In a recent post, the Montana Cowgirl Blog expressed serious sexism against women. In her attempt to compare the GOP Congresses popularity, she uses former Montana Governor, Judy Martz and her being naked, somehow. I read the post several times and can't seem to follow the logic. Yeah, Martz was unpopular and yeah, there is supposedly a nude bordello dancer mural sculpture in Helena that looks like her but I don't see the connection to her unpopularity. I see it as a flagrant sexist attack on a woman using sexuality and mocking her modesty.

When the mural appeared, the Governor made her top aide drive her down to see it and declared it wasn’t her:“I’m a very modest person, no one would ever see me like that. My husband doesn’t ever see me like that.”

Cowgirl made a mention of Rehberg but then launched into a full blown attack on GOP Presidential Candidate Michelle Bachman along with Martz.

Even though Judy Martz was the most unpopular Governor in Montana history, Republicans seem drawn to the Judy Martz model of candidate. After all, TEA Party Congressman Dennis Rehberg has already publicly voiced his support for Michele Bachmann at a Republican dinner earlier this year.

We do know that Bachmann and Martz share many traits beyond just stupidity and nut-job politics. Like Judy Martz, who often refused to talk to reporters and demanded they submit questions in writing in advance, Bachmann has begun avoiding reporters who she believes will ask hard questions. Both Republicans are known for their outrageous public gaffes, their belief in forcing their fundamentalist religious views on others, and their insistence on wearing nude pantyhose with sandals.

Then there is this strange couple of sentences. Cowgirl must have just finished off a six pack of PBR when she wrote it because I don't understand it except it is clearly a slam on Bachmann covering up a murder.

The women are not exact clones, however. At least we have no knowledge of Bachmann covering up a homicide. And when a T-Paw aide called Bachmann “sexy,” she said she took it as a compliment.

This is probably the most sexist article I have read in years. To not agree with or like Martz or Bachman or Palin must make one a sexist. There is simply no other explanation.

Cowgirl should be ashamed of herself.

Missoula Reinforces Its Anti-Business Reputation

In a strong statement reinforcing Missoula's anti-business reputation, the Missoula City Council overwhelmingly voted 9-1 to urge federal and state lawmakers to amend the U.S. Constitution to state that corporations are not human beings and don't have the same rights as citizens. Only Dick Haines had some sense and voted no.

Before members of the public spoke, Councilman Haines voiced his strong opposition and had a spat with Mayor John Engen.

"This has got to be one of the dumbest things I've seen us do in a long time," said Haines, who noted most media outlets are corporately owned.

Mayor Engen disagreed: "I'll suggest this is probably one of the smartest things you all have done in a long time."

Citizen John Tesdal was also against the measure:

John Tesdal, though, said the "feel-good activism" has no place in Missoula. He feared it would hurt local business that are corporations, such as the Good Food Store, Portico Real Estate and the Kettlehouse Brewing Co., one of his favorites.

"The proposed referendum in my opinion is really anti-business," Tesdal said

I have always known Missoula is governed by ignorant Liberals but this takes the cake. What business would ever want to start up or relocate to Missoula knowing how anti-corporate and anti-business the leaders of the community are? Do these people have any idea at all what message they are sending?

Of course, the people quoted in support of the measure are all kooky far left wing activists - Environmental Studies UM Professor Vicki Watson, famous local self promoter Rep. Ellie Hill , and retired alternative medicine doctor Mary Stranahan. .

Here is a quote from each:

"Corporations do not bleed or feel pain. They can't die in an unsafe workplace," Watson said.

"This is a question of whether American democracy itself can beat back a corporate takeover," Hill said.

"I think this is one of the most important issues we as a country face in trying to preserve what democracy we have," Stranahan said.

These three Liberal activist women along with there supporters are against corporations and businesses having the right to pay for political ads based on the first amendment. However, they fully support the right of unions and their political and non-profit organizations the right to pay for political ads.

How can they, if they were being honest, say it should be illegal for one type of organization to buy political ads but legal for another type of organization? Seriously.

It is totally political. The goal is to muzzle organizations that lean to the right and give organizations that lean to the left a distinct advantage. They know the Liberal message is not supported by the majority of American citizens and must do what they can to manipulate who can and cannot get their message to the public and let the public decide.

But I digress. Bottom line, Missoula continues to reinforce their anti-business message leaving its population un and underemployed while whining and complaining there are not "living wage" jobs or good opportunities.

It makes me wonder if the Missoula Liberals really want economic prosperity. They seem to do everything they can to drive it away. Or they are just too dumb by thinking it comes delivered in pixie dust on unicorns.

It breaks my heart for Missoula and its citizens when I see ignorance and stupidity like this. Business (and corporations) give us the prosperity and lifestyle we all enjoy today. Even the kooky Liberals who oppose them. But the citizens of Missoula continue to vote these people into office so I guess they get what they deserve. Sad.

He is a fifth generation Texan, the son of hardscrabble west Texas tenant farmers – Democrats but conservatives through and through. He grew up in a farm town too small to be on the state map. Life was so hard that he was six years old before his house had indoor plumbing. His mother sewed his clothes, including the underwear he wore to college.

He is an Eagle Scout. After Paint Creek High School , he attended Texas A&M, graduated, and was commissioned into the Air Force where he became a C-130 pilot.

Now 61 years old, he has won nine elections to four different offices in Texas state government. In the first three elections he ran as a Democrat then switched to the Republican Party. He is currently the 47th governor of Texas – a position he has held for 11 years, the longest tenure of any governor in the nation.

He has never lost an election.

Rick Perry was the Lieutenant Governor to whom Governor George Bush handed over the office after winning the 2000 Presidential election. Since then, Perry won gubernatorial elections in 2002, 2004, and 2010, the last time by 55% against a field consisting of a Democrat, a Libertarian, a Green Party, and an Independent.

Since he became its Governor, Texas – a right to work state that taxes neither personal income nor capital gains – has added more jobs than the other 49 states combined. In the last two years, low taxes and little regulation led his state to create 47% of all jobs created in the entire nation. Five of the top ten cities with the highest job growth in the nation are in Texas . People follow jobs, so in the last four years for which data are available, Texas led every state in net interstate migration growth.

Perry signed ground-breaking “loser pays” tort reform and medical litigation rules that caused malpractice insurance rates to fall. Some 20,000 doctors have since moved to Texas .

Texas boasts 58 of the Fortune 500 companies – more than any other state. Since May 2011 Texas resumed its pre-recession employment levels. Only two other states and the District of Columbia have done that.

Texas ships 16% of the nation’s export value. California trails at 11%. Of the 70 companies that have fled California so far in 2011, 14 relocated in Texas .

In this year’s Texas legislative season, Perry got most of what he wanted. With no new taxes, a fiscally lean state budget was passed leaving $6 billion in a rainy day fund even as other states around the country struggled to balance budgets and avoid more deficit borrowing. A voter ID bill passed that was designed to prevent ballot box fraud and illegal voting. A bill passed that makes plaintiffs pay court costs and attorney fees if their suits are deemed frivolous.

Perry scored points even in his legislative failures. He failed to get sanctuary cities banned – Texas towns in which police cannot question detainees about their immigration status. The blame fell on the legislature. Perry also failed to get a so-called “anti-groping” bill passed that would put Transportation Security Administration agents in prison if they touch the genitals, anus, or breasts of passengers in a pat down. Federal officials threatened to halt all flights out of Texas airports and the bill died in special session. That endeared Texans even more to TSA employees living in Texas .

Perry jogs daily in the morning. He has no bodyguard with him, but his daughter’s dog runs by his side and he carries a laser-guided automatic pistol in his belt. Last year while jogging in an undeveloped area, a coyote paralleled his jogging route, eyeing his dog. He drew his pistol and killed the animal with one shot, leaving it where it fell. “He became mulch," Perry said. Animal rights groups protested, but Perry shrugged it off. “Don’t come after my dog,” he warned them.

Recently, Obama asked Perry to delay the July 7 execution of Humberto Leal in order to comply with the International Court of Justice in The Hague and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. Perry refused. Therefore Obama asked the US Supreme Court to delay the execution because it would damage US foreign relations. The Court refused 5-4 and Perry ordered the execution to go forward as scheduled. Over the howls of diplomats, politicians, and the UN, Leal was administered a lethal injection at 6:20 p.m. Before he died, he admitted his guilt and asked for forgiveness.

The case has special implications for Perry, who is considering a run for the presidency in 2012. Even his critics resent federal interference in a Texas execution, which is related to a state, not a federal, crime – an alcohol and drug-fueled rape and murder 17 years ago by an illegal whose family brought him into the country 35 years ago as a child. The interference hinges not on the man’s guilt, which Leal’s advocates acknowledged, but on a technicality – failure to inform Leal that he could have gotten legal representation from the Mexican consulate in lieu of the court-appointed attorneys who represented him. Independent Texans saw Obama’s interference as another intrusion of federal power into the affairs of a state, which could cost Obama support in other states.

Needless to say, Perry is a hard-edged conservative and a ferocious defender of 10th Amendments rights (“The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.”) – an explicit restriction of the federal government to only those powers granted in the Constitution. Perry accuses the federal government, especially the Obama administration, of illegal overreach.

Perry said “no thanks” to the feds whose stimulus offered taxpayer dollars for education and unemployment assistance. The strings on “free money” from Washington , he said, would restrict Texas in managing its own affairs. Perry even depleted all state funds to fight recent wildfires before asking Washington for disaster relief. His request has been ignored, which comes across as an unvarnished federal power play, further pitting Perry and Texans against the federal government.

After putting up a post about Obama blowing off a farmer's question and concern about government regulations and rules affecting they way they do business, I looked into it some more and discovered that the farmer really has a lot to worry about and Obama really is more clueless than I originally thought.

The DOT was trying to require farmers to have the same requirements as commercial long haul truck drivers.

Agriculture groups were alarmed this spring when the transportation department asked for thoughts on whether commercial truck safety regulations also should apply to farmers who drive their equipment on highways and rural roads within their own state.

Farmers worried they would need to spend money on training and driving tests, keep track of how much time they're behind the wheel and carry medical records. It also would have made it harder to find help, they said, because many teens who work on family farms are too young to get a commercial license.

"You add all that up together, and it's a tremendous drain on resources," said Justin Knopf, 33, a grain farmer near Gypsum, Kan. "There's not a farmer around my community that this would not impact."

Fortunately, the issue has been dropped... for now at least. I fully expect them to try again in the near future. The government never give up when there is an opportunity to control through rules and regulations and extract fees.

Voter Fraud Alleged in MIssoula

I was surprised when the school levies passed back in May. Now I know my surprise may have been justified. The Missoula County Sheriff Department is investigating voter fraud after Missoula tax accountant Patty Lovaas discovered some strange discrepancies while investigating another matter in the election.

It appears somebody got into the computer and manipulated the vote to provide a victory for the school levies.

In short, the vote on the Missoula high school general fund levy had been close in two reports on the evening of May 3, Lovaas said. Then, in a May 4 report at 1:34 a.m., the vote took a big upswing in favor of the levy.

She looked at some computer reports of the election tallies and discovered what appears votes being tallies three different times in three preceints that don't exist.

A spreadsheet appears to show single ballots being processed three different times - and in three "wild card" precincts that she said don't exist.

"This is high-tech computer manipulation," Lovaas said.

She counted more than 3,600 such "erroneously listed voters" whose votes were counted three times in three make-believe precincts. She believes someone used ballots from valid voters to orchestrate some elections outcomes: The culprit or culprits used real ballots, overrode the legitimate votes cast, plugged in the desired outcome, and linked those votes to three fake precincts.

I've said it before, Liberals need to cheat to win. The Sheriff might want to look into voter fraud from the Tester/Burns race. Gov Schweitzer did encourage the people in Missoula to "vote early and vote often" in that race. Seems like it shouldn't have been taken lightly back then.

If this turns out to be true, we all know it wasn't the first time they committed fraud.

The contract lists the country of origin as Canada and place of manufacture as "outside U.S. - Trade Agreements," a possible reference to the North American Free Trade Agreement.

I'm sure the Canadians appreciated the work. They, by the way, have recently implemented Conservative policies and are doing quite well these days despite all the economic problems happening in Europe and the US because of Liberal policies.

The Hammond Report's Five Year Anniversary

The Hammond Report went dark a few months after Obama became president back in the dark days of 2008-2009 and I let the URL expire and lost all my posts from October 2007 on. I was so disgusted and dispirited along with changing careers that I simply did not have the motivation or time to keep the blog going and active.

I've made a few posts in June and July of 2010, December 2010, June 2011 and finally seem to have the motivation and time to be more active in posting. I redesigned the site and plan on just maintaining my blogger site and not worry about having my own URL, especially since some Realtor now owns it and hasn't posted since May 2010.

I was playing around reformatting my site and adding some new widgets and took a look at my archive and realized that I started it in July of 2006. So I've been at it now for five years - plus a month.

At this time, I feel like I got a rhythm going and am enjoying putting up posts. It is enjoyable seeing what an enormous failure Obama has become and how completely incompetent he and his administration is. I am sad for the country but happy that through it all the Tea Party was born and the 2010 election started righting the ship. I am excited about the GOP candidates running for President or who might be running. I am also excited to see GOP run states like Wisconsin,Ohio, Texas, New Jersey, and Florida prove that Conservative policies do, in fact, work. I'm excited to see Denny Rehberg run for senate and look forward to voting for him as he defeats Tester.

Things are looking so much better. It will be a fun year and a half.

I guess we are supposed to feel sorry for him? Especially since he's been the only President to have ever had the misfortune of having a run of bad luck. As I've been saying for years, solar and wind will never replace fossil fuels and nuclear in providing a source of base load electricity. The heavily subsidized and pet company of Obama, Evergreen Solar, filed for bankruptcy today. Solar is loved and supported by the Liberals as the saving technology to all that is wrong with the US.

They received $43 million in MA state subsidies but closed their US factory in January 2011 and laid off 800 workers and moved those jobs to China. Seven months later, they are bankrupt.

Nobody wants solar power. It only works when the sun is out and it's way too expensive for any reasonable person. It is a waste of money for the government to subsidize. The beauty of the free market is that industries like wind and solar will eventually fail. Only tax payer subsidies keep it alive longer than it should.

Obama Disrespects Seal Team Six in Their Dignified Transfer

I'm lucky I even heard about this. I went back to do a little research about the Picture of the Day that the White House released of Obama saluting the fallen Seal Team Six during their Dignified Transfer and had a great deal of trouble finding anything. It may be my search terms but I tried several and almost nothing came up.

The remains of 30 Americans who were shot down in Afghanistan arrived at Dover Air Force Base last Tuesday in what the military is calling Dignified Transfer. Obama rushed - from another vacation or party - to the base for a photo op. The Pentagon banned media coverage and 19 of the 30 families said they did not want any pictures taken. Obama, not to be swayed, made sure there was a photographer with him and published the photo anyway.

There are two issues here. First Obama completely disrespected the brave servicemen by ignoring the wishes of their families and the Pentagon. I know he is the Commander and Chief and can over ride the Pentagon but what a lack of class and decorum. Second, the MSM pretty much has ignored the whole episode. I can understand the second point with the MSM because there is just so much that Obama is messing up it is difficult for them to report all of it but the first point it unforgivable.

To make matters worse, the White House argued the picture was released "in the interest of transparency." A laughable claim especially when considering how they govern and jam their policies down our throats.

The man has no respect for the military but is desperate to use them to advance his image. See the killing of OBL and now this situation.

I always look forward to reading Peggy Noonan's "Declarations" column in the Saturday WSJ. This morning's was one of the most interesting because her analysis of the cause of the London riots got to the root of everything that is wrong and destructive about Liberal ideology. She quoted Theodore Dalrymple of the City Journal who described the problem perfectly.

A population thinks (because it has often been told so by intellectuals and the political class) that it is entitled to a high standard of consumption, irrespective of its personal efforts; and therefore it regards the fact that it does not receive that high standard, by comparison with the rest of society, as a sign of injustice.

And Ms. Noonan closes the comment with this perfect summation.

Much of what they have is provided by others, but they are not grateful: dependency doesn't encourage gratitude but resentment.

If we don't get things straightened out soon and Liberalism relegated to the scrapheap of failures, we have our population of entitled dependents trashing our cities and randomly attacking people.

GOP Survives Wisconsin Recall Races - The Left is Shocked!

Despite Gov. Scott Walker saving teacher's jobs by weakening the Union, the crazy Left tried unsuccessfully to take over the Wisconsin Senate by staging six recall elections on GOP State Senators. They needed to win three of the recall elections but, thankfully, only won two. There are two recall elections next week against Democrats who hid, like cowards, in another state while Walker and the GOP Senators were trying to save the budget of the state. Hopefully, the GOP can win those elections and even things out.

It never ceases to amaze me the lengths Liberals go to advance their agenda. The voters elected the Wisconsin Senate with a 19-14 GOP majority in November and when that legally elected majority passed laws that the Liberals don't like, they stage recall elections. The voters of Wisconsin should be incensed by the Liberal's actions and dismissal of who they voted into power in November. I can only hope they will vote in a stronger GOP majority in 2012.

I commend Scott Walker and the GOP Senators for being strong against the hysterical attacks from the Left and their accomplice MSM. These are the kind of leaders we need more of at the Federal level.

Canadians and Health Care

I have some friends from Canada staying with us this week. Their son severely twisted and sprained his ankle coming down the stairs the other day so we took him to the Emergency Room at St. Pats. The folks at St. Pats were fantastic and professional as always.

My Canadian friends had never visited a US hospital and were impressed with it's cleanliness, staff, doctors and modern equipment. They were particularly impressed with how quickly their son got in to see a doctor - it was about half an hour from the time we checked in to the time the doctor looked at him. They further said they would probably have spent four to five hours in the waiting room in their Canadian hospital and be seen by an exhausted and distracted doctor. As a result, they cannot understand why Americans want to change our system from what it is now. I clarified to them that it is only a minority of extremists who want the change and have manipulated the system to get the current law through. Most Americans don't want it.

Their boy is fine. Sever sprain and he's wearing a boot.
